Lartey Solomon, a 33-year-old registered nurse who built a social media following of more than 20,000 users by sharing health advice as "Nurse Solomon," was shot and killed during an alleged robbery attempt in downtown Oakland on May 31, authorities said.

Solomon had established himself as a health educator through his TikTok account, where he shared medical information with thousands of followers. According to an online fundraiser organized by his brother Emmanuel Solomon, the nurse was born and raised in Ghana before relocating to the United States.
He attended Merritt College and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Samuel Merritt University. Solomon worked as a registered nurse at Alameda Health Care and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro.
"As a nurse, caring for others was more than a profession, it was his calling," the family wrote on the fundraiser page. "He was passionate about educating people on their health and empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being."
Relatives told KTVU that Solomon and a friend had been leaving a nightclub and were heading toward their vehicles when a man approached and demanded a chain Solomon was wearing around his neck.
The Investigation
Oakland police said officers responded shortly after 2:45 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of Harrison Street near the intersection of 14th and Harrison streets. When they arrived, they found Solomon suffering from gunshot wounds.
Solomon was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
Prosecutors have charged Vallejo resident Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, with murder in the fatal shooting. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office said Daniels also faces charges of attempted robbery, personally and intentionally discharging a firearm, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Daniels was arrested on June 4 in Menlo Park, prosecutors said. He appeared Monday for arraignment at Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland and remains jailed without bail.
Court records show Daniels has prior felony convictions in Alameda, Contra Costa and Orange counties, according to prosecutors.
