An Iowa mother who was sleeping while her 3-year-old son died in a sweltering hot car has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Tiffani Huff Holmes, 42, pleaded guilty last month to involuntary manslaughter, an aggravated misdemeanor, in the June 28, 2025 death of her son Myles Holmes in Bondurant, Iowa, according to the Polk County Attorney's Office. She was sentenced on Friday.

Investigators later determined that Holmes had knowingly left her son in the vehicle, where he succumbed to hyperthermia. A search warrant application obtained by the Des Moines Register detailed that when Holmes discovered Myles, his lips were blue and he was "hot to the touch" and "extremely sweaty."
"I feel remorse, regret and pure hatred toward myself," Holmes told the judge during sentencing.
Prosecutors noted that Holmes had attended alcohol treatment at least three times prior to her son's death. According to court records, Myles' father said he had repeatedly "begged" Holmes to stop drinking, but she instead "became better at hiding it."
A mostly empty bottle of vodka was found inside the home. Investigators say Holmes initially claimed she consumed the alcohol after discovering her son dead.
"Myles filled each day with joy, music and love," his obituary stated. "He adored singing nursery rhymes, giggling at silly games, and snuggling with those he held dear."
